Laura Mulvey and the male gaze

Laura Mulvey and the male gaze in music videos
Laura discussed how the camera assumes the place of the male spectator which therefore make the audience view the male perspective in music videos. This highlights how the male gaze shows how men objectify women whereas men are seen as objects. The camera also uses more slow motion shots, tilts and pans of female characters to show them being objectified by the male gaze.

Example of the male gaze is Rihanna music video

In her music there is a lot of close ups of her body, this represents the male perspective of what they see in a women. There is also lots of quick cuts of Rhianna dressed in a sexual way which are shot at different angles.
