ANALYSIS AND EXPLANATION OF THE OPENING CREDITS OF 2 FILMS

CONTAGION OPENING CREDITS

ANALYSIS
In the opening credits of contagion there is mysterious and spooky non-diegetic music. The background is dark and looks like a picture of a forest. The word contagion is written in red and coming out of each letter is an extended red line, which travels around in a circle, the background changes to a world map. There are red and yellow circles floating around the screen as different names pop up showing that the production team is.

EXPLANATION OF MY ANALYSIS

The reason there is spooky music is to highlight the genre of the film being a thriller as it creates suspense. The reason that the word contagion is in red is because red signifies danger and blood, which is relevant to the movie contagion as it is about a virus being spread. The reason that the background is of a map is to foreshadow how something is being spread through all countries, from the opening credits the audience get an impression of that something is travelling around the world and because the writing is in red is is foreshadowing that danger is being spread to each of the different countries on this 'map. Furthermore the reason there is red and yellow circles are portraying an infection as they represent pathogens.

ANALYSIS
The opening credits are written in gold. Names of actors stared in it and part of the production team are shown on different backgrounds one being an empty area of grass, which keeps panning across. The camera then tilts up a building whilst the credits fade in from the bottom. The camera then zooms in around Chicago showing different buildings and people who live there.

EXPLANATION OF ANALYSIS

I think that the credits are written in gold to show wealth however this contradicts with the movie as it isn’t all about wealth only those who are of an upper class are the wealthy ones. It also signifies spiritual growth and gain, which is shown throughout divergent from the main character Shailene Woodley. Furthermore the reason the credits are first shot in an empty area of grass it to highlight how isolated the area is. Lastly by the camera showing different buildings and people evoke the idea of the city being urban, the buildings are all dull colours, which highlights how the area is evil and not very wealthy which contradicts to the gold style colour text used for the credits.
