What is the BBFC?
British Board of Film Classification- this
is the UK’S regulator of film and video it provides age ratings such as U, PG
and 12A as they have the legal power to rate movies.
What is
U rating?
A U film is suitable for audiences aged
four years and over they usually have a positive mindset and don’t contain
threat or violence.
What is a PG rating?
Parental guidance. General viewing however
some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. Unaccompanied children of any
age may watch it. Most suitable for a child aged eight or older.
What is a 12A rating?
Only used for films in a cinema. Suitable
for children ages 12 or over. However children younger than 12 may see a 12A so
long as they are accompanied by an adult
What is a 15 rating?
No one younger than 15 can see the film in
cinema. Or rent or buy a DVD. May have violent scenes, drug scenes or sexual activity.
What is a 18 rating?
Suitable for adults only, no one younger
than 18 can watch an 18 in cinema or rent or buy a DVD. This is because it
could contain sex education, sex works, criminal law and extreme violence.
From this I would say my film is a 12
because although it has some scenes of horror, it is not up to a level where
someone would be critically scared who is 12 or above. My movie also isn’t very
complicated so a 12 year old would understand what is going on.
A news article I found was about the ebola virus written by Bob Grant.
This virus is found in the lungs it gets into the bloodstream forming many
pathogens it leads to organ failure. It is spread via body fluids and
transmitted by contacts. 
The second news article I found was Swine Flu. This disease is a virus
that gets inside antibodies. In a BBC news article it said that a fifth of
people would be infected by swine flu. The virus killed 200,000 people. At
least 20% of people including school children were infected with swine flu
according to data of 19 countries. One of
the researchers, Dr Maria Van Kerkhove from Imperial College London, said fewer
than two in every 10,000 people infected died during the pandemic.
This article was in the BBC. Zika is
an infection that has been linked to thousands of babies being born with
underdeveloped brains. Some areas have declared a state of emergency, doctors
have described it as "a pandemic in progress" and some are even
advising women in affected countries to delay getting pregnant. The symptoms of
it are mild fever, conjunctivitis, headache, joint pain and
rash.
