ANALYSIS OF BEYONCE SORRY MUSIC VIDEO

BEYONCE- SORRY

Beyonce’s genre is pop. At the beginning of the music video ‘sorry’ there is a narrative of Beyonce speaking. This emphasises on the meaning of the words and music video to the song. The star of the music video is the vocalist who lip syncs the whole song. Whenever the beat drops the camera shots to the vocalist back to the dancers which is showing her dominance.

Furthermore the music video is in black white which matches the lyrics ‘I aint sorry’. The black and white effect highlights negativity which links to the lyrics as she isn’t sorry. This also contradicts the genre being pop as most music videos featured in this category are brightly coloured.

The narrative says a lot about Beyonce. This is because her song is based on a real life situation. The song reveals what Beyonce went through as her husband Jay Z cheated on her. The lyrics ‘Sorry I aint sorry’ which represents her as an artist as not being sorry for acting as she did as she is the victim. It also represents her as an honest woman who likes to be treated with respect from how she reveals her emotions and the truth in the song. The lyrics which refer to her being cheated on are ‘he only want me when I'm not there he better call Becky with the good hair’. Highlighting ‘Becky’ being the mystery girl that her husband was having an affair with. The narrative also demonstrates the genre of pop as the song is about a relationship which a main stereotype within pop music.

Beyonce is trying to sell her image through the close ups of her lip syncing. There is also continuous close ups and mid shots of the main singer in order to emphasis on it being her song and to sell Beyonce’s image better. Lots of quick cuts to different scenes and back again repeatedly to emphasis her emotions on each beat. There is also lots of hand held shots on the bus to create verisimilitude to make the audience feel they are part of the video and feel like they are with Beyonce on the bus escaping from what she is claiming her husband having an affair.

The lyrics match the visuals when she says ‘I aint sorry’ at the beginning as she is sitting in a relaxed position showing how she doesn’t care.

 She also says ‘middle fingers up’ whilst raising her middle finger. 

 When she wipes her hands down her face she says ‘Now you wanna call me crying’. 

The quick cut of her saying ‘I aint thinking bout you’ matches the visuals as she is having a party on a bus which signifies how she doesn’t care as she is being occupied.

 One last lyric that matches the visuals is when she says ‘Looking at my watch he should’ve been home’ as she looks down to her wrist as if she wearing a watch.

OUR MUSIC VIDEO- LITTLE MIX BLACK MAGIC

The narrative of our music video was 3 girls who are best friends dancing around the outside area of their school to represent the singers from the song. The song we chose was Black magic by little mix. Our narrative relates to the song because fro the emotions in the girls faces shown through close ups relates to the lyrics od the song because it is representing girls being passionate which makes them more powerful which is the storyline behind the lyrics, as girls have more power of boys by demanding them what to do.

The first camera angle we used was a mid shot, we used a lot of mid shots to highlight how all three girls were equal to each other. We also used close ups to emphasis on the lip-syncing. We further used tracking and panning shots to follow the vocalist as it went with the beat and rhythm of the music.

The actors we used were three girls this was because the song we chose was sung by 4 woman, so we wanted the singer to match our actors gender to create more meaning and make the audience feel more apart of our music video. It also makes it more relatable.

The lip syncing matches the generic conventions because the song is a pop song so the lyrics match this style of music as they’re about a girl and a boys love for each other and how the girl is the demanding one as she is telling him what to do. This signifies girl’s power over boys. Which relates to how we decided to shoot our music video as the girls are having an enjoyable time.

In order to make my music video more professional I would canon cameras instead of an iphone 7. I would also plan in advance this being preparing what shots I would use. I would also use a tripod to hold the camera on as most of our shots were really shaky. We filmed our music video on an app called video star. To make it more professional I would of edited it on premiere pro or imovie.

From this feedback I learnt that our thriller is interesting because it is relevant to todays society, as one of our viewers said she remembered hearing about swine flu when she was younger. From this I can infer that more people will be interested to watch our thriller because of our story line as usually people watch a film because they are interested in a story line. From this I can gather that I will gain a wider audience which highlights how my film is going to be successful.

From this feedback I got positive comments and negative comments.
My positive comments showed that the non-diegetic music I used was really important for our thriller because it added more suspense. Also it was stereotypical and as part of our thriller we wanted to see if by using an attractive character it  would attract a wider audience, from my feedback I learnt we managed to do this. I also learnt that our camera work was really good which is key for making our thriller be successful. 
However we should of used more make up and costumes to make it look more like a movie. Therefore next time I make some sort of movie I will use a lot more props and costumes to make it look more professional.

I received this feedback from a teacher in my school he gave me some positive points. My positive points showed me that our thriller is intriguing and because its relevant to todays society it is more interesting, which was part of our main intention for our thriller so that we could reach a wide target audience.
