Different age groups opinions on music videos

Analysis of feedback

From this feedback I learnt that there are differences in peoples ages of how they feel about music videos. Within the same age of 17 everyone I asked had a different opinion on music videos. As some people I asked found that they did enjoy watching music videos where as others said they would watch them with friends. I also found that I thought the people I interviewed of the age 17 would say that pop was there favourite genre but actually I found they prefer R&B or classical which was surprising to me.

Furthermore I found that the older generation of people I asked don't watch music videos whereas the younger people do. This shows how music videos are more orientated for a specific generation.

Album Cover

Album cover

Art of the album cover:
-       Packaging
-       Advertising
-       Often an insight into an artists world view
-       Art illustration to create a whole package
-       Cultural object

What needs to be on the album cover?
-       The artist

How to decide what goes on the album cover?
-       Sit down with artist and discuss ideas behind the album
-       Go off and do several sets of visuals and present them

The primal scream: Covers I’ve created will start with a conversation about references, everything from world events to underground films, punk fanzines, pop art, early video art, Italian horror films in amongst these contrasting things certain themes or images will start to emerge which can be twisted around to fit together

Although now a days there is less album covers due to people downloading music on ipods it is still important for the overall packaging to have an album cover.

Music video tips

Our teacher gave us some useful tips on how to make a successful music video:

-       The essential idea of what we are doing is manufacturing a band for a song, and this will be that bands first release, and it is our job to make the video successful
-       We will start with the image of the band, ensuring that their style is fit for the style is fit for the style of the song and that they know how to play the instruments required so they can realistically mime the track
-       The band we are creating obviously has no fan base, so it is up to us to get them out their via various marketing techniques and dig packs
-       The best type of music video contains three different narrative strants, a performance element, which the label thinks is vital as it acts as a fail, save. A lip sync element just simply singing in a situation wit very few props. Lastly a narrative element the story that will be led by genre and style. The music video will then consist of constant cutting between these narrative strands, this keeps the video exciting and interesting
-       We were advised to make a mood film or prezi this involves a set of images or a simple video to create a short film to demonstrate the ideas for the final product. This helps clarify the idea and helps identify the potential problems.
-       Music videos are used to help a musician or band promote a song or album. Think of a music video as an advertisement for the musician. Thanks to cheap digital video equipment and YouTube there is no excuse for a musician to not have a music video out for the world to see. With so many music videos out there it is worth exploring the idea of analysing a music video

-      Something to consider first and foremost, is that music videos are more than just music. The video part of a music video is what truly sets it apart from a song by itself. The video contains messages that the musician wants to convey to the audience. The music video director has chosen to show a story or lifestyle about the musician that will appeal to the audience. The artist is selling more than just a song… they’re selling you a lifestyle, presumably the lifestyle the artist lives him or herself.
