3 examples of analysis of cd covers and how they relate to genre, target audience, star image and synthetic vs organic

ANALYSIS OF ALBUM COVER

Basement Jaxx

- Colourful and weird
- Human body with an animals face makes it eye catching
- Not selling there own image as there is no band on it which makes it weird and unusual
- Experimental
-Don't know what there music is like from the picture which shows how there music is different

- The target audience from this CD cover is aimed a more indie audience.
- This CD cover relates to the genre, house or garage music from the experimental colours and how there is an animals face on a human body.  This signifies how it is different to mainstream music.
- Basement Jaxx are an organic artist  because they develop their own star image.  They are extraordinary.

One Direction

- All have a similar look to each other.  Which highlights there star image as main stream and youthfulness.
For example similar fashion.
-Young boys therefore aimed at a younger audience
- Darker colours highlights how they are mainstream in order to fit in with society to gain popularity. Also shows there music is pop rather than an alternative different type of music such as indie rock. This means they are synthetic artists.

Ariana Grande
- Ariana grande is aimed at a younger audience this is shown through her style and genre of pop.
- From this CD cover we can see she is a synthetic artists through her costume and her sexual look. We also know she is a synthetic artist because she is controlled by a record company who write her music for her.
- From this CD cover we can see her star image is being represented as youthfulness, rebellion and sexual magnetism.
